Rachel Warren was born and raised in South Florida. She graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2017 from the University of Central Florida. She currently lives in Atlanta, GA where she is a MFA candidate in Photography at the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design at Georgia State University. Her work focuses on finding self-identity linked to human relationships, perceived authenticity, and collective memory. Warren is driven by emotion and repetition of everyday attempts to understand the same thing, creating an unknowable history that the viewer engages in and produces their own narrative away from the truth. She works with reclaimed inherited items, archival photos, and writing to explore familial ties and loss, capturing fleeting tangible moments that are gestures or feelings, rather than conversation. She explores the idea that photos can reflect a sentimentality that allows the past to be turned into an object of regard.
